Don’t be too late this year. Sewing machine workshop. Tutor Jill Arnold. MON. 22ND NOV. LAND OF THE LONG WHITE CLOUD STAINED GLASS PATCHWORK 10AM – 4PM £30 In recent years New Zealand has become the most popular destination for British tourists – and many people have relatives or friends who have made their home there. No-one who has visited the country can forget the majestic scenery, and during this workshop you’ll be creating your own New Zealand landscape – choose either Vineyard or Lake to stitch on the day, and you can take the other design away with you to do at home. The designs are created in stained glass patchwork, it’s an ideal introduction to the technique even if you’ve never tried it before, as during the day we’ll cover everything you need to know. I think of this workshop as ‘landscape painting the easy way’, I’ve used lots of batik and random-dyed fabrics to create the effects of light and shade, mountains and pasture, water and sky in the landscape, and I’ve done each design in two colourways, to show you how you can create different atmospheres depending on your choice of fabrics. It’s a great way of using up all those single scraps of lovely fabrics that you can’t bear to throw away, but which aren’t really enough for any other project – bring along a good selection then you’ve got a wide ‘palette’ of colours to choose from. Tutor Gail Lawther. 4 TUES. 23RD NOV. HALF TIMBERED HOUSES STAINED GLASS PATCHWORK 10AM – 4PM £30 This workshop is your chance to play town planner and architect combined! (Take a leaf out of Prince Charles’book…) During the day we’ll create a selection of different half-timbered buildings, inspired by all the lovely villages dotted around England. You can concentrate on just one or two buildings and add lots of decorative detail to them, then take them home to appliqué to a cushion-cover, the front of a beg, or even a teacosy as I’ve done. Or, if you’re feeling ambitious, you can plan a whole street of buildings, either way you’ll get the designs for all six buildings on the day. So you can mix and match them as you wish. Tutor Gail Lawther. WED. 24TH NOV. FRACTURED STARS ONE DAY WORKSHOP 10AM – 4PM £25 The stars in the project are foundation pieced. They are irregular in design with varying centres and the border reflects the same arrangement as in the star points. Foundation pieced and machine sewn. Tutor Jane Bothamley. MON. 29TH NOV. CIRCLES, FANS AND FOLDED FABRICATIONS 10AM – 4PM £30 Tuck into manipulation with these uniquely usual methods for creating surface texture. Learn the techniques then combine to form small quilt/hanging or create individual panels. Ingeniously devious yet essentially simple designs – most excellent for incorporation in all forms of creative quilting and other sewn projects. Twiddle and tweak, embellish and embroider – this is a great class for all sewaholics – you will become a creatively textural artiste!! Students should complete or almost complete their class sample ready for quilting For coloured picture – view workshops on www.jennierayment.com Tutor Jennie Rayment. TUES. 30TH NOV. TEXTURED TWIDDLING FOR CLEVERLY CREATIVE QUILT BLOCKS 10AM – 4PM £30 Play with shape, form and pattern and construct two or three innovative 12” square textured designs. Amaze at the ease with which intriguing manipulated effects can be produced by just folding, rolling, tweaking and twitching squares and rectangles. Combine a selection of the blocks for an innovative quilt or utilise individually in cushions/bags/quags and all!. It is appreciated that students prefer to complete or almost complete their class sample and each class is carefully designed so this should be possible.
